A Podcast Coaching Manifesto

The spectrum of podcast “coaches” spans from the truly transformative to the tragically inept. This manifesto establishes the non-negotiable standards for any podcast coach before a single dollar is exchanged.

(I would love your thoughts. This is version 1.0 (last updated 4/22/24), but I’ll update it with whatever makes sense).

Here is what a legitimate podcast coach must embody:

Connect WithYour Coach And The Cash Will Follow …

Who Is The Real Hero?
The ideal coach centers on comprehending and amplifying your vision and objectives, sculpting the best strategies to bolster your unique message. This journey is about elevating your podcast, not parading the coach’s past laurels.

Proven Track Record
Choose a coach with a demonstrable legacy of success, one who brings forward undeniable evidence of their proficiency through client successes and solid testimonials. You are not an experiment.

Mastery Beyond Technology
Superior coaches propel you beyond the gears of technology to craft messages and narratives that resonate authentically. The essence of podcasting transcends the microphone — it’s about the (definable) impact of your message.

Commitment to Measurable Success
A true expert delineates success both qualitatively and quantitatively, setting clear, trackable benchmarks to hone your podcast’s efficacy. Forget nebulous terms like “inspire” or “promote” — tangible outcomes are what matter.

Mindset First — Monetization Second
Prudent coaching prioritizes the core purpose of your podcast before profit. You can’t monetize a podcast — you can only monetize an audience.

Structured Coaching Plan
Expect a well-defined coaching trajectory with explicit goals and defined endpoints. Your path should be as clear as the outcomes it aims to achieve.

No Hacks, Just A Path
Avoid coaches peddling quick fixes; authentic success is built through sustained effort and precise audience engagement. The real craft lies in delivering the message your audience needs, not in superficial tricks.

Transparency in Pricing
Effective coaching involves straightforward, upfront pricing without hidden fees. Invest in results, not merely the hours spent in the process.

High Ethical Standards
Only engage with coaches who practice unwavering integrity, those who safeguard your interests and honor the podcasting community with high ethical standards. Their treatment of the industry reflects how they will treat you.

A Focus On Real Analytics
The best coaches understand and utilize advanced analytics to unlock insights into audience behavior, crafting content strategies that truly engage and grow your listener base. Downloads are just the tip of the statistics iceberg.

Up-to-Date Industry Knowledge
Stay relevant with a coach who is a step ahead in the industry, continuously adapting to the latest trends and innovations to keep your podcast at the cutting edge. If your coach isn’t up to date, you sure as heck won’t be.

This manifesto delineates the essential traits of a genuine podcast coach, separating true mentors from mere pretenders. By selecting a coach who embodies these qualities, you’ve a much better chance at securing a partnership that will see the results that started your quest in the first plce.
